Parents, are you training the Quit Muscle?

Are you showing the path of success or how to give up when things get tough?

As parents, we are our kids constant back up. We are their confirmation if what they are doing is right or wrong. We help the build their habits for the rest of their lives. So, what is the quit muscle?

The quit muscle is learning how to give up or not push through, it is a trainable habit just like a muscle. The more we use it, the stronger it gets. The more we give up, the easier it is to give up. The more we push through difficult situations, the stronger we become on finishing our goals.

We recently had a question come from one of our parents asking, “How can I help teach my child not to give up so easily? Anytime something gets difficult or they think they can’t do it, they just want to quit.” This can be a crucial moment in the child’s life to show the lesson on how to succeed. As parents, what we allow to be acceptable is what will be done. Sometimes it means we have to put up with an extra fit or complaint, but in the long run, we will always have their best interest at heart. Don’t let them give up! Motivate them, talk with them, give them your stories of triumph in difficult moments. Tell them and show them the possible outcomes of their success. Ask for help! If you know what they are doing is important, get your team involved! Spouses, instructors, friends and family have a big impact on support!

In our classes at TX Black Belt Academy, we try to teach and instill these ideas into all of our students. We want our students to not be afraid of difficulty but to have the resilience to stand up, face it, and succeed.
