We randomly went here to see my son would like it. My son is very shy but all the instructors were able to make a learning lesson a fun experience for him. I highly recommend this karate studio. Staff is incredibly professional and friendly. Pricing is great as well. I like that they have a realistic schedule for working parents. 10/10 recommend.

I have had a lot of behavior and anger issues with my son. I heard martial arts was good for things like that and then some. Mr. Demetrius was so patient and taught my son so much on his first one on one trial session. We can’t wait for his first official classes to start next week. Thank you so much TXBBA I am grateful after only a trial session.

TXBBA of Cleburne the greatest place for sure to get your little ones involved in 😊 Started our son here and couldn’t ask for better . The instructors are truly in it for the right reasons. They care about each and every child , making sure they are all learning , feeling accepted, and having fun. It was hard to find something that my son felt comfortable in and enjoyed and this place has nailed it all.

True Professionals that inspire kids to achieve! Sense Rich, Sense Rodrigo, Sense Rose and Assistant James are awesome! We were given such great service since day 1. My little guy really enjoyed the coaches, but also the extra curricular activities offered by this studio. He was especially excited about the food drive this year. So glad this studio teaches (qualities like giving) and other character building beyond Karate. Would highly recommend for parents looking to build life skills, and strong bodies and minds for their children.

I love this place! The owners/ instructors are awesome. They really take the time to show you how to do each move correctly and are super friendly. I attended the women’s self defense class and learned a lot! They were nice enough to repeat each step until I felt confident. The facilities are also great. Everything was clean and new. You can bet the price for all of the great classes they offer. They even do birthday parties and camps during the summer. Perfect for the kids who are tired of the same old things. I highly recommend

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that specializes in ground fighting, submissions, and positional control. Rather than relying on brute strength, BJJ emphasizes leverage, timing, and precise technique to neutralize and overcome larger or stronger opponents. Practitioners learn how to transition through positions, escape from disadvantageous situations, and gradually work toward a dominant position. The ultimate objective is to force the opponent to submit through carefully applied joint locks or chokeholds, demonstrating the art’s effectiveness in both sport competition and real-world self-defense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike striking-based martial arts such as karate or taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, leverage, and ground control. Instead of punches and kicks, students learn how to escape holds, control opponents, and apply submissions. This makes it especially effective as a practical self-defense system where size and strength matter less than technique.

No. BJJ itself is one of the best ways to get in shape. Classes are designed for all fitness levels, and progress comes gradually. You’ll improve strength, flexibility, and cardio simply by training. Many people start with little to no athletic background and see significant improvements in their fitness within months.

A typical class begins with a warm-up and movement drills, followed by learning a new technique step by step. Then, students usually practice the technique with a partner and finish with controlled sparring (“rolling”). New students are often paired with experienced partners to keep things safe and comfortable.

Most schools offer both gi and no-gi classes. The gi (a kimono-style uniform) teaches grips, control, and traditional techniques, while no-gi training is done in rash guards and shorts, focusing on faster, more fluid movement. Many beginners start with a gi since it slows things down and makes learning easier.

Progress in BJJ comes quickly at first—you’ll learn basic escapes and controls within weeks. That said, mastery takes time. Most students notice improvements in confidence, fitness, and self-defense ability within the first 3–6 months of consistent training. Belt promotions come slower than in many other martial arts, which makes each achievement feel earned and meaningful.
